GENERAL SELECTION RULES:

Age groups – U14, U16 & U18 (double age groups) female and male. AACT will select a maximum two athletes per event in the U14 age group, and a maximum of three athletes per event in the U16 & U18 age groups. If selecting 3 athletes in the U16 & U18 age groups, one must be U15 or U17 respectively. Nominations will close onSaturday 14 October 2017.

To be selected in events held during the ACT Secondary Schools Championships onThursday 14 September 2017 athletes must compete in these events to be considered. For athletes that are unable to compete at these championships, and intend to be considered for selection, written notification along with evidence of the exceptional circumstance needs to be provided to info.act@athletics.org.au by no later than cob 14 October 2017. On this note, selectors will give priority to athletes who compete in the ACT Secondary Schools Championships on Thursday 14 September 2017. This is, exceptional cases will be considered only when the spots in the team for an event are not filled in by athletes who have competed in the championships.

 

To be selected in events NOT HELD or contested at the ACT Secondary Schools Championships – e.g. hurdles races, steeplechase, walks, hammer throw, pole vault, 3000 meters or cancelled in the course of the Championships (i.e. due to weather conditions) – athletes must submit the ‘Non Held Events Nomination Form’ with their best performance since 1st January 2017 to info.act@athletics.org.au by cobSaturday 14 October 2017. This applies to both Athletics ACT (AACT) members and school students who are not members of AACT. On this note, AACT offers school students who are not members of AACT the ‘opportunity’ to participate free of costs in the following specified ‘High Noon’ track and field meets on 20 August, 03 September and 24 September, so that they can post performances which selectors can use as part of the selection of the ACT Schools Team.

In addition: All Race Walkers must submit a verifiable track walking time (no road times). U14 walkers need to have posted a 3000m walk time as this is the actual event contested at Nationals. Likewise, for 3000m runners, this needs to be a track time and not a cross country or road race. These performances must be able to be found in published on-line results from known and properly conducted meets. Results from Little Athletics competition or from training sessions will not be considered.

AACT selection committee is working on an updated selection policy document which, including the above, will be posted soon on the AACT website.
